Scope
Within many technical fields, English has become the shared language of the profession. Yet many of the academic programs responsible for educating the next generation of technical professionals are located in emerging economies and world regions where English is not the primary language.
To address this need, IEEE conducted many Technical English Programs (TEPs) in cooperation with local IEEE sections and/or a host university : Russia (2009, 2010), China (2010) and UAE (2010).
During the participation of many Moroccan IEEE members to both Russia and UAE TEPs, several aspects of Technical English had been raised. Among others, Technical English in the specific context of countries where English is the third scientific language after Arabic in elementary and high school studies, and French in university studies. Aterwards, Fez local office of IEEE MS has launched its own TEP initiative in computer science in the form of regular workshops of one day per month, throughout a year (2011-2012).
Now and in parallel to the APPEL’16 conference, the Moroccan Education Chapter is organizing a TEP workshop in the field of Education. A one day event where participants will have the opportunity to enhance their ability to speak, listen to, and read Technical English.
Training objectives
The objectives of the APPEL’16 - TEPE are as follows :- Improve the participants’ skills in Technical English. The planned team work will take place in the form of interactive oral and written activities covering topics in the field of education. The team productions will help the participants to familiarize themselves with the chosen topic and to memorize the related technical vocabulary.
- Improve the participants’ skills in English (not necessarily technical) to improve their communication, reading and writing technical papers. The aim of the planned activities is to acquire new grammar rules, to practice speaking and listening, etc.
A printed booklet of all material of the training as well as basic grammar courses with related exercices will be given to each participant.
